I have joined them on five Bridge Builder Expeditions along the north west coast of Svalbard. My task is to render my impressions with my pencil and watercolours. following a tradition of expedition artistry since the late 16th century. I spend no more than 5 - 30 minutes on each painting because I need to keep up with the group.
The next expedition is planned for spring 2020. Its main objective is to maintain the field station.
Understanding Planet Earth
We need to get to know the world if we want to take better care of it. One way is to follow Linnaeus' students overseas. Anton Rolandsson Martin embarked on a whaler in Gothenburg and spent the summer of 1758 in the Greenland Sea and a couple of hours on Midtøya off the west coast of Svalbard.
The IK Foundation found that particular skerry in 2016 and built a field station on a nearby island two years later. Five cameras, a sound recorder and a weather station keep us updated about the state of this very remote place.
